Re: MZ-80A RFS Board / MZ-700 tranzputer Board

Thank-you, will put one aside. The video card has a bug on the external display output I think arising from the Sharp MZ Gate Arrays which I only found out whilst readying a board for a guy and made some final tests. The issue is in the external Vertical Sync and Horizontal Sync separation, the sepa...

MZ-80A RFS Board / MZ-700 tranzputer Board

I've got to a point on my projects where I feel other enthusiasts may be able to make use of them, namely: MZ-80A Rom Filing System Upgrade board - Adds ROM / RAM storage and SD Card along with an upgraded monitor which runs alongside the original SA-1510 Monitor. I've also updated BASIC SA-1510 and...

MZ-700 Upgrade - tranZPUter SW-700

Just thought I would share my most recent board with the forum as I slowly piece together the documentation which can be found at https://eaw.app/sharpmz-700-upgrades-tranzputer-sw/ This is an amalgamation of my MZ-80A developments for the Sharp MZ-700 providing it with a much needed boost in terms ...

Re: Mz80-A no cursor

Found the reason today by accident, basically replace your 8253 Timer IC (IC 47). I was transferring developments from my MZ700 board to my MZ80A board and inadvertently blocked $E000 - $E7FF which manifested the same problem you have, ie. no cursor, just the monitor signon text. I then decided to n...

Re: RGB to VGA for MZ-700

Just had time to double check and I was wrong in terms of the cable wiring when I removed /HSYNC+/VSYNC+CSYNC and replaced it with just CSYNC working. It was my new board that works with just CSYNC but on the MZ700, even though it is not electrically sound, shorting /HSYNC + /VSYNC + CSYNC together ...

Re: RGB to VGA for MZ-700

I need to double check what I said above as I cant remember whether I tested the modified cable on the original MZ700 hardware or my new board (which has selectable +CSYNC and /CSYNC). CSYNC on SCART should be positive whereas the MZ700 is negative. Although not electrically correct it may be workin...

Re: RGB to VGA for MZ-700

SCART uses pin 20 (Video In) as the CSYNC input when using RGB and pin 16 is tied high or pin 20 for the composite video when pin 16 is tied to ground. I looked at the document posted and this is how the cable I bought was wired but connecting an output which is high to an output which is low will y...

Re: Introduction

Forgot to add:- both devices are fully reprogrammable with the Altera Quartus II software, you need v13.0.1 for the CPLD and v13.1 for the Cyclone III - see my website https://eaw.app/sharpmz-upgrades-video/#quartus-prime-in-docker to use docker which is the easiest way to use Quartus. The CPLD is s...

Re: Introduction

Pictures below are for the MZ-80A which has the tranZPUter SW v2.2 board and the Video Module v2.0 board (equivalent to the above board but made as two separate boards) and the MZ-800 with a tranZPUter SW v2.2 board (no plans to add better graphics to the MZ-800 as it already has pixel graphics and ...

Re: Introduction

I'm not familiar with the Unicard, but the board runs at 20MHZ (either the original CPU Freq of 3.58MHZ or any frequency from 0Hz to 20MHz output by the MK64FX512 timer - the Z80 is the limit for the highest frequency). As the video/graphics are off the main board, they too run will run at the highe...
