Re: Still faulty 80K
Whoops! Yes, Z80! I could say I was confused as I am also fixing a ZX80 but that might not take to a 6502 either.

Re: Still faulty 80K
New monitor ROM, swapped out for a newer 6502, no difference so replaced the old one. Also swapped out the 8253 which had some very irregular waveforms on its output.

Re: Still faulty 80K
Hi, Have checked, I replaced both the video RAM chips before Christmas. Pressing SG <CR> produced no sound, nor if I tried it again. Volume is on maximum.
Any other ideas? I shall get back to the service manual tests to see if that gives me anything else.

Re: Still faulty 80K
Thanks for that. I gave up over Christmas but it is time I started again. I am determined to get it fixed. Something serious had happened to the computer. I had no crystal clock (now fixed) and no clock from the 555 timer (also now fixed). I can now see clocks throughout the CPU and graphics systems...

Re: DIsk Drive Cables
I thought it was just a 34 pin TE connection, same pitch as an IDE ribbon off an old computer. Only snag is I think they had the missing pin (to stop you plugging in the wrong way around) at a different point but you can get the cables with all pins wired to get around that. Try someone like RS Comp...

Re: Still faulty 80K
Another gripping instalment! For those not in the know (me included until a little while ago), most home computers of the time used the system clock for everything, dropping clock frequencies by additional chips or by using the processor itself to time things. The Sharps are quite different. They us...

Re: SANYO TRC-1148 Recording volume
I assume you are connecting the computer earphone out to the tape recorder microphone in? The output is WAY too high. On my laptop, I have the earphone output set to between 3 and 5 (Windows 10) so extremely low. If you are intending to save to tape so you can then play on a physical computer (eg MZ...
