Re: MZ 700 - rear view

2H (7417) pin 2 = RD3 (printer bus). It should have been connected to the right pin of the rear connector. I also notice GND pins are all connected on the rear connector. No doubt it was for a printer. So I suspect one of the previous owners removes the rest of wires.

Re: Type of machine ?

Ah yes, I'm less familiar with the 800 mode in MZ-800. Understood.

Re: Type of machine ?

$1000-$CFFF is pure DRAM - except for $C000-$CFFF when swap for MONITOR ROM is enabled by MZ-80A/MZ-1200 so I'm not sure why you need $C800.

Re: Type of machine ?

One way to detect an MZ-80 K definitely is to check whether a byte write to $D000-$D3FF is mirrorred into $D400-$D3FF. One way to detect an MZ-80 A/MZ-1200 definitely is to check whether you can swap $C000-$CFFF into MONITOR ROM (that is, if you cannot modify a byte) One way to detect an MZ-700 or o...

Re: Type of machine ?

What are the machines you want to detect? the monitor name checking will be defeated with a custom rom.

Re: MZ-700 Graphics

Details of differences between MZ-80A and MZ-1200: http://retropc.net/ohishi/museum/mz1200.htm.

In that article, you will find a lot of interesting detail about the hardware : a color screen was almost available for instance on MZ-80A.

Re: MZ-700 Graphics

Yes, probably the same way as between MZ-800 and MZ-1500 which the only common thing is the fact they are retro-compatible to MZ-700.

Re: MZ-700 Graphics

It looks as if MZ-80A is the low-cost version of MZ-80B (professional target). For instance, the video chips and the expansion bus would be more in common with the MZ-80B than the MZ-80K. I see no successor to MZ-80A which was only for oversea (MZ-1200 for Japanese market). I remember I read an Japa...
