Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

Hopefully the HxC will solve the immediate issue but the Gotek should work, just getting the cable right (easier said than done!). I've generated a new GAL configuration file for the SFD800 (below) and tested it on the SFD800 on my MZ-800 (need to verify on the 80B) and all works fine, so just a mat...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

Which FD card do you have, the MZ-80AFI, MZ-80FIO, MZ-1E05? The official one for the MZ-80B should be the MZ-80FIO and looking at it's manual there is nothing special about it, ie: https://original.sharpmz.org/mz-80b/download/sm80fd.pdf - on the other hand if it is the MZ-80AFI then this uses an inv...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

There are a few anomalies for sure with the Sharp FD boards. I've just finished duplicating the SFD800 and ordered up the PCB's, during some board layout checks I discovered that the 34pin IDC on the SFD800 card is reversed, pin 34 is where pin 1 should be, this explains why I have to reverse the co...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

@hlide. - thank-you, good to know how it works. Could well be a slight signal difference on the Gotek, the MZ-80A wiring above uses the /MOTORON as the drive /DS0 so the motor automatically starts on activation of /DS0, but interestingly enough when it accesses /DS1 it still works! What you need is ...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

I've sent the link but it seems to be stuck in the outbox again! Perhaps PM's are disabled on this board! Hopefully it will be sent! In the zipfile, the DSK subdirectory, some of the DSK images you will already have. I've had no issue with HxC2000 batch converting them to an SD card using HFE format...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

A bit confusing as you look up 34pin IDC on the web and it gives various pin layouts, the one I found and mapped to was linear, ie. 1-17 on top row, 18-34 below. Looking up Shugart, you get the more general even numbers on top (bottom having the locator tab) and odd numbers at the bottom, ie: http:/...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

I just checked the connections, assuming the IDC pinout is as per this link:http://www.hilmanind.com/pinouts/floppy.bak 34pin IDC 37pin D-SUB 1 NC 2 NC 3 NC 4 4 5 8 6 6 7 5 8 NC 9 9 10 10 11 11 12 12 13 13 14 14 15 15 16 16 17 NC 18 20 19 21 20 22 21 23 22 24 23 25 24 26 25 27 26 28 27 29 28 30 29 3...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

I just use the HxCFloppyEmulator v2.2.2.1 windows based program, place all the Sharp disks I want into a sub-folder and use 'Batch converter targetting the HFE exported files to the SD card used in the Floppy Emulator. Admittedly I havent done it for 2 years (how long it's been since I used the MZ80...

Re: MZ-80B project (Floppy Disk I/O Card cloning!)

SFD800 - 1.png 115.5mm x 95mm x (edge connector facing towards you, 34mm x 57mm x 24mm). You can still buy all the ICs, the 74HCT are an ideal replacement, the WD-1773 can be found on ebay, ie. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362668881645?hash=item5470bff6ed:g:06YAAOSwnDRcXYEn - be wary of IC's from Chi...

Re: MZ-80b FI/O to HxC Cable

Not tried the Gotek, just Lotharek's HxC (SD CB - HXC Rev C BLACK CASE) and a dual Cumana 5.25 disk pack. The HxC is an older model and it works with the MZ-80A/MZ-800/MZ-80B and BBC Model B but not with my Sharp X1 which uses the same 37pin external D-SUB!!!
