Re: Color GAL5, color board for MZ80KC/1200

The MZ-80K mirrors each 1K pages in $D000-$DFFF so it isn't possible to map the color pages at $D800-$DBFF as it conflicts with character VRAM. I would expect the same for the others like C/KE/KE2. To circumvolate that obstacle, we can use an "inker" : in the magazine it is $E00C. So we wr...

Re: Color GAL5, color board for MZ80KC/1200

Which means the same card should probably work as well with an MZ-80A.

Re: Color GAL5, color board for MZ80KC/1200

The MZ-1200 and MZ-80A have a lot of hardware parts in common: there is a connector which allows to add a color board (the engineers already thought about that addition): *** the one for MZ-80A (pins are present) *** mz80a_6.jpg *** the one for MZ-1200 (pins are not present) *** mz12_6.jpg And here ...

Re: MZ800 is not an euro MZ1500 !!!

Yeah MZ-1200 and MZ-1500 being purely Japanese-only machine it is natural not to find any information at that time. Even now it may be dodgy to find their documentations as they are mostly written in Japanese and that Google search is not an easy place to dig them out.

Re: MZ800 is not an euro MZ1500 !!!

To my opinion, MZ-80 A and MZ-800 are not true MZ-80 K successors, are both western-only computer wanted to be more professional than the other MZs by adding some elements that you find in MZ-80 B series. Note that MZ-80 A and MZ-800 have no compatible successor as well.

Re: MZ800 is not an euro MZ1500 !!!

There are several websites where MZ-800 is pointed out as a western version of the MZ-1500. Included sharpmz.no and original.sharpmz.org. The situation is quite similar to MZ-80 A vs. MZ-1200: anything which is specific to A won't be compatible with MZ-80 K, MZ-700 and MZ-1500. Moreover MZ-1500 is i...

Re: 700/800 - are custom taperoutines common?

I have two of those beasts but the fact that I cannot access the source becomes a disapointment now. One instance. I was using VGA output but since I added a bigger CGROM to have both western and japanese fonts, VGA output is useless to display japanese games because the firmware is unable to offer ...

Re: 700/800 - are custom taperoutines common?

That's something I wanted to do with my existing project (mz-sd²cmt) but the AVR is not fast enough to handle memory bus unless you plan to use /halt, /busreq/ack or /wait to take the full control when needed. Suffice to say that you cannot handle a GUI, a SD reading and spying the memory or I/O bus...
