Reviving a MZ-1P01 plotter

Post by Jo Even »

My "new" 731 has not been used in probably 30 years. Is there anything I should do to the plotter before I test it?

I guess I should have done something, as when I tested the paper feed it worked for a few seconds and then the roller stopped. I can still hear a motor spinning, so I guess there's a rubber belt or something that has disintegrated over the years.

It might be a problem with one of the small gears. It seems to be quite common problem with Alps mechanism...
Here is description and some tips how to fix it:

Describes Commodore 1520, but it is the same mechanism.

Alternatively, I've seen someone selling 3d printed replacement gears for this plotter on eBay. No idea about their quality though.
