MZ-1E14 replica

Post by Pacman »

EN:

Good morning all,

Here is my last replica: the MZ-1E14 Quick Disk controller for Sharp MZ-700.
I had a little trouble finding the contents of the EPROM as it does not exist on the official site or on the old one.
The interface worked perfectly the first time and is based on the diagram in the MZ-1E14 service manual.

FR:

Really cool! Could it be possible to use the MZ-1500 QD code as I believe it is more complete and can write programs in QD unlike the MZ-700 interface?

On the MZ-1500 the QD interface is integrated in the EPROM (??) of the machine. Maybe an MZ-1E19 type interface used on MZ-800.
I also have a replica of the MZ-1E19 interface for MZ-800 in my circuits.

I know three interfaces: MZ-1E14 (MZ-700), MZ-1E18 (MZ-2000/200), MZ-1E19 (MZ-800) and MZ-1500 has already a QD ROM. I wonder if the QD part for MZ-1500 can be used since MZ-1500 is more or less an extended MZ-700.

I know MZ-700 QD ROM is more limited than MZ-800's.

MZ-1E19 ROM commands:
- QF-Format Quickdisk
- QD-Quickdisk directory
- QL-Load file
- QS-Save file
- QC-Copy file
- QX-Transfer file from tape

MZ-1E14 ROM only offers QL and QD.

MZ-1E18 ROM offers no monitor commands.

Does the MZ-1500 use the 9Z-504M monitor which is the MZ-800?
We must be able to find the signature directly in the EPROM.

But it looks as if those ROMs having a complete set of QD commands have an address range of $E800-$FFFF instead of $E800-$EFFF. And I would even consider they could have code between $E010-$FFFF in fact (not necessarily only for QD).

The MZ-1E14 will not be suitable because we have 1 EPROM with QD management integrated in the MZ-1500 and an external EPROM with another QD management. I think the MZ-1E19 version must be more suitable for the MZ-1500.
In addition, the software cannot be integrated into the external EPROM (on MZ-1E14) because the EPROM is not a 2764 but a 2732.
I will review the plans for the MZ-1500, but it seems to me that it contains a 16kB EPROM like the MZ-800.

The only interest was for our MZ-700 to be able to get the complete QD management. But, yeah, that replica won't fit because it would need a different address decoder and a 2732 instead (that's what my last post was saying a "BUT"). MZ-1500 has already the complete QD management in its original ROM so nothing to do for them. And yes MZ-800 and MZ-1500 handle a similar ROM partitioning: IPLROM+CGROM+EXTROM.

Nothing prevents to develop a more complete management for MZ-700 on a 2732 ... starting from the sources of MZ-800 for example.
