Usborne Books

Post by mz-80a »

If you were a kid in the '80s and in the UK (perhaps other countries too!) you would recognise the Usborne programming books.
I have now converted all the usual small game listings published in these books to MZ-80A BASIC (SA-5510)

Please find them all here:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CC-qQ ... yUU4I81B-B

I will also be converting the longer listing books as well soon. They are generally one listing per book and big adventure games so will take a little longer.

I had the same in France. Wonder whether I still have them.

Interesting to find out that they did make their way out of the UK. I had a feeling they might. I still have the two pictured above (those are my actual copies). None of the others though. But if you check the readme files in my Downloads folder you'll see the URL to all the books.

Fantastic :) What a treasure! I wish I had something like this when I was a kid. I did type in quite a few games from magazines, but I didn't have access to complete books like this.

Cool.

In case someone does not yet know: most of the books can be downloaded from Usborne as PDF https://usborne.com/browse-books/featur ... ing-books/ (scroll down for the historic books).

Yeah link to Usborne site's books is in the readme.txt files in my Downloads folders :) (main link in the root of Usborne Books folder but link to each individual PDF in each subsequent sub-folder's readme.txt file)

Still about four books to go. And these are the longer listings for complete text adventure or fantasy games. These will come soon!

Have typed in Haunted House now from the Adventure Games book but wow does it have a lot of bugs in the listing. Having to debug the listing myself and that's taking a little while. It's annoying that they would publish something that's essentially untested. One particularly annoying bug prevented you from ever being able to GET or TAKE an object!
