[GUIDE] How do I get my .wav files onto my MZ?

Post by TextAdventureKing »

How do I get my .wav files onto my MZ?

Emulator
Don't use .wav files for emulators, use .mzf files!

Physical Machines
Buy a cheap car adapter from your local shop (I don't recommend eBay because of scammers, got scammed as I thought i got an RF to VGA adapter i just got wires!). Personally, I would go with a popular/known brand. I use a Polaroid Car Adapter (model no. WM1C-P) that I bought from ASDA for a few pounds so they are really cheap! Plug-in the headphone jack into your phone or computer and play the .wav file (usually converted from .mzf). If done correctly, your machine will start to load (e.g. LOADING Munchies) and a message will appear on your screen. Once the audio track is finished, you should be able to play the game/use the software you loaded in!

The emulator I use does use WAV files as well as MZF. My Fast Loader actually worked with a fast formatted WAV on my emulator which surprised me initially but it's just a great emulator. Car adapter from Amazon is the way I've always done it for the physical machine.

Also, the program should be loaded well before the audio track is finished :) The format of files is such that two copies (one copy + backup copy) are always stored, so once the first copy has been loaded with success the program should be ready on your machine (but the audio file will still be playing).

I assume you guys are referring to a cassette adapter? If you just google for "car adapter" you will find something totally different.

Seems like a convenient and cheap solution for anyone without unicard.

I just bought pretty much the first one I found off Amazon years ago and it still works fine.

TextAdventureKing I added where to get the kit at the end of that blog post http://retro-rick.djsho.co.uk/?p=58 . And BTW you should check out https://github.com/rickyelqasem/MZF2WAVGUI which helps convert all the MZF files to wav file very quickly.

WOW! This is very impressive! I have an MZ-80K and an MZ-700 however it popped (it still boots but it popped once) and smoked up my whole room and it SMELT. My 700 can't be used as I have no CRT for it.

@TextAdentureKing why do you need a CRT for your 700? I plug mine into the AV port on my LCD TV.
