Master-Boot (or similar) for the MZ-80A?

Post by tjewell »

On this page - https://original.sharpmz.org/mz-80k/dldutils.htm - there's an enormously useful program called 'MASTER-BOOT' that can be used to take any program and put it in the boot sector of an MZ-80K disk. I used it to build a Basic boot disk, and a bootable version of Sucopy.

I'd love something similar for the 80A, but the 80K program doesn't work (I'm not that surprised). Anyone seen a program like this for the 80A?

(I note when it runs it says "masterherstellen" which suggests it's German, if that helps anyone).

Thanks, Tony

Starting to wonder if it's worth disassembling the 80K one and seeing if it can be transcribed to the 80A. Trouble is I don't know the I/O stuff for the 80K.

Going forward from this, Tony and I are carrying out some investigations regarding boot sectors etc for the 80A. Will try and report findings here in this thread. Will be starting by dumping the contents of memory $F000 to $FFFF with peripherals attached to see what code is present in that area.

And this is a dump of memory $F000 to $FFFF on my MZ-80A with the Expansion Unit attached (my unit has both a floppy card and printer card installed). Will start disassembling this code shortly.
Next will be a dump with just one of those cards installed just to see if there are any differences in the code at that memory address.
