We are speaking about the connector (for unknown purpose) drilled in the rear of the middle "black" cover.
MZ 700 - rear view
Re: MZ 700 - rear view
I gathered that but when I saw the different rear view images in "Sharp MZ700/8000 - EXPOSED-" by John Simpson, I thought it no good looking at the MZ700 spefications it's a MZ800. and gave a the functions of the slots, why duplicate these functions.
As you said we must see the inside. I have seen 25wayD connectors and DIL connectors used for centronic printer output, even in the late 80s, centronic connectors used 20 wires.

Re: MZ 700 - rear view
So I bought this MZ 700. Unfortunately the connector is not connected. There is some wire connected to motherboard.
Any idea what it was used for?. Looks like there was some card behind the connector.

Re: MZ 700 - rear view
2H (7417) pin 2 = RD3 (printer bus). It should have been connected to the right pin of the rear connector. I also notice GND pins are all connected on the rear connector. No doubt it was for a printer. So I suspect one of the previous owners removes the rest of wires.
