Does anyone what this MZ-80K Modification does?

Post by Pile-o-stone »

Hi, I recently bought a non-working MZ-80K and after recapping the PSI, the computer now operates. As there are still issues I decided to do a full restoration, starting with recapping the all the remaining boards and testing/fixing the RAM if required.

The MZ-80K had a few basic modifications, one for a reset switch, one that moved the volume potentiometer to the side of the case, and one that is a switch that I can't figure out it's purpose. It seems to act like a reset switch but I doubt that this is its only purpose as the MZ already has a reset switch attached.

I have attached a photo of the underside of the motherboard that shows the switch and its connections. Unlike the reset switch which is momentary, this unknown switch can be 'on' or 'off'. Though switching it doesn't seem to turn anything on or off, but it does seem to reset the computer.

Any help appreciated as I'm thinking of removing it, but want to check before I do in case it has a use.
