Arkos Tracker 2 - a Tracker for Sharp MZ 700

Post by Targhan »

Hi all,

I'm Targhan/Arkos and I am developing Arkos Tracker 2, a cross-platform software music (on Windows, Mac and Linux) to compose music targeting Amstrad CPC (my main computer), Atari ST, MSX, Spectrum (Next too), and Sharp MZ-700. The latest version (alpha3) now has a player dedicated to your beloved machine :).

And just wanted to say hi and talk about my software, which may interest you, in case you need music for your games or demos :).

The software is still in alpha, but already full of cool features and is fully usable. Don't hesitate to ask for features or report bugs (here, or in the dedicated forum in the website).

Thanks and see you soon!

You're welcome. For those interested: Arkos Tracker targets an AY 8912 (3 channels, square waves modulated by an hardware envelope generator plus a noise generator). As the SHARP MZ-700 only has a buzzer, simply use the first channel, use a square sound. If its volume is >0, it means the buzzer is on, if the volume is 0, the buzzer is off.

There is a player (called "Lightweight") and the tester in the package, I tested all this on emulator, it seems to work fine. Anyway, just compile the tester and check for yourself :).

Hi Targhan! That's a great news.
The MZ is now on par musicwise with the rest of the Z80 machines :)

Does It take into account the different frequencies in MZ series? or does it only work with MZ-700 (3,5 Mhz)?

You can set your PSG(s) to any frequency with Arkos Tracker 2. From what I tested on emulator and from this source, the player uses a PSG running at 894886 hz.

Is this value correct? On emulator, it sounds exactly like on AT2. Anyway, this can be changed at will.
