MZ-80A demo
MZ-80A demo
Well, it'd certainly be great if there was an MZ demo scene. There was one I've seen on YouTube for the MZ-700 which was pretty neat. I started work on an MZ-80A one last year but work stopped for various reasons and now there is a different bit of homebrew happening which has taken priority. But I hope to start work on the demo again very soon (once the current homebrew project has been released). There are some small bits of information about it here:

I hope we'll see other people coding some demos too in the future!

Re: MZ-80A demo
Will that demo also work on a MZ-700?
Not strictly MZ-80A, but I've made a (crude) converter that can convert any picture to MZ-700 graphics, which is nice for people like me with limited artistic skills
The conversions creates a 2K (or was it 4K) screen memory like on the real MZ-700 and my program emulates the graphics on the MZ-700.
The resulting screen data can be dumped into a file and loaded directly into the screen memory on a real MZ-700. I hope. I haven't tested it for real yet.

Re: MZ-80A demo
That looks excellent
My friend (who runs Datadoor) has some similar software I think but it also lets him do infinite zooms / anims etc When I showed him the MZ character set he really wanted to get involved in the demo I was making. In theory the demo will work on the MZ-700 but it will require a few changes to the code due to the fact that the CPU runs faster (I think the 700 is 3.5mhz where the 80A is just 2mhz). Because it's a nightmare to code graphic effects on the MZ (no interrupts directly related to screen) I have to use certain CPU based timings to get effects and those loops etc (effectively burning NOPs) will need to be adjusted for the faster 700 CPU. I'll definitely consider making a 700 version although it'll be missing colour.
Would love to see more pictures from your converter!

Re: MZ-80A demo
My program is simply just an image converter, really.
Here are some more pictures.

Re: MZ-80A demo
That is very cool indeed!
Can it be made to work with the 80A / 80K ? (I guess it's more difficult without the colour)

Re: MZ-80A demo
At least, it would work with "Bad Apple!!" since that video is B&W. But you would need to add the audio as well.
Re: MZ-80A demo
Oh yeah? What's Bad Apple?
Edit : Just looked it up, oh yes I think I have seen this one before! Audio could be tricky and there are limitations of MZ character set but might be possible!

Re: MZ-80A demo
Infinite zoomer by Datadoor using Sharp MZ charset

Re: MZ-80A demo
Well, Bad Apple!! was a black&white video and was ported to numerous old computers or consoles. Just notice the Vectrex version here (I have a Vectrex and a VecFever cartridge to play this video on my Vectrex as well).
Laser one
Bad Apple in Stop-Motion
Did you notice the first picture of a set given by Goev comes from that video?
